With the LG G7 now official and the release date near, potential buyers need to know what to expect. In this guide we’ll go over everything that’s new, what changed, and how it compares to the aging LG G5. If you’re looking to upgrade, this is everything you need to know.

If you’re hunting for a new phone you should have the LG G7 near the top of the list. This phone has a bunch of exciting features most don’t have. Not to mention features LG users know and love.

Some of those include a dedicated Google Assistant button, a wide-angle camera lens, and a built-in Quad DAC for improved audio. Not to mention a big and bright 6.1-inch edge-to-edge display, some new AI technology, and a design that’s vastly improved over the aging modular G5.

And while there are several excellent Android phones available now or coming soon, the LG G7 arrives on June 1st. Making it and Samsung’s recent devices some of the best on the market. If you still use and enjoy the LG G5, you’re likely looking for an experience different from Samsung or Apple.

However, software tweaks and dual cameras are about the only things the LG G7 and LG G5 have in common. Everything else changed completely. From the design, software, specs, to the built-in non-removable battery. That said, most of these changes are for the better. Like wireless charging, or for water-resistance.

The LG G7 is also much bigger than the LG G5 from a few years ago. Things have dramatically changed over the last few years. While the G5 is still a pretty decent phone, you’ll love all the changes LG is bringing to the table in 2018. Here’s everything you need to know about the LG G7 and how those things compare to LG’s older modular phone.

LG G7 vs LG G5: Design

We’re pretty confident in saying the LG G5 was a design that failed. While we loved the idea of a modular phone, LG really dropped the ball. They didn’t release enough accessories and the entire process was cumbersome. LG didn’t sell very many G5 smartphones. As a result, they completely revamped the entire design in 2017.

What you have from the new LG G7 is a continuation of that, while blending in the best of 2018. We’re talking about the big screen of the Galaxy S9 with the edge-to-edge display of the iPhone X. The LG G7 is nothing like the G5, in a good way.

You have a premium all metal and glass design. Yes, there’s glass on the front and the back, but that means you get wireless charging. And while they get rid of the option to remove the battery, fast and wireless charging makes up for that. Not to mention the battery is bigger than what you got in the LG G5. So that’s not a concern either.

We’ll still have two cameras and the fingerprint scanner on the back, only this time all three are better than ever. When compared to the LG G5 you’ll see the G7 now has a much bigger screen, sleeker design, no camera humps on the back and more. You get a lot more phone in the same size package.

Small bezels allow a big screen in a small space. It’s not much bigger than the 5.3-inch G5 from last year, yet has a 6.1-inch screen.
