The iOS 11 beta and its features are tempting but many of you are better off keeping your iPhone or iPad on an official version of iOS.

Apple’s confirmed a brand new iOS 11 operating system and it plans to release it to select iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models sometime this fall. You don’t have to wait to try iOS 11 though.

The company’s released an iOS 11 beta for developers that allows iPhone and iPad users with a developer account to try the software ahead of its official release date. Apple will also release a public iOS 11 beta though it’s probably a few weeks away.

There are plenty of reasons to try the iOS 11 beta on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Your testing will help Apple improve the final version of iOS 11 and it also gives you the chance to test out some of its most exciting features before everyone else gets it.

That said, there are some valid reasons to avoid the iOS 11 beta 1 and future iOS 11 beta releases. Apple will likely release several before the software is certified.

If you’re currently on the fence over the iOS 11 beta, take a look at this guide. It will walk you through the best reasons to try, and avoid, the iOS 11 beta for your device.

Note: The iOS 11 beta is only available for the iPhone 5s and later, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation, iPad mini 2 and later and iPod touch 6th generation.
