The iOS 11 release date is scheduled for the fall but you can try Apple’s newest operating system long before that thanks to the new iOS 11 beta for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Apple’s confirmed its iOS 11 update and put it into beta for developers. A free, public iOS 11 beta will arrive in a few weeks. Apple hasn’t confirmed a specific date for members of the Beta Software Program.

The iOS 11 beta is packed with new features and tweaks including a redesigned app drawer in Messages, improvements to Siri, a new Control Center, and screen recording.

While most of you will want to wait for the official version of iOS 11 to arrive in the fall, others might want to give the beta a shot right now. If you do decide to try the iOS 11 beta on your phone or tablet you’ll want to be extremely careful.

iOS 11 beta is early software and early software can be extremely unpredictable. It can, and probably will, cause problems on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. This is why we recommend doing some prep work before you install early software on a device. (You’ll also want to take some important steps after you install iOS 11 beta.)

This iOS 11 beta installation guide goes over the most important things you should do before you install the iOS 11 beta on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Our pre-installation guide is aimed at new iOS beta users but some of these tips might help veteran beta users prepare for Apple’s new iOS 11 beta.
