Star Wars Battlefront 2 DLC: 3 Things to Know Right Now

Today we want to take a very early look at the most important things to know about Star Wars Battlefront 2 DLC for PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

Earlier this month, EA DICE outlined some of the key Star Wars Battlefront 2 release details. We now have specific Star Wars Battlefront 2 release dates, we have information about the multiplayer and single-player campaign, and we have details about the game’s various editions and pre-order bonuses.

We also have some intel on the game’s DLC content though it looks like the developer will do things a bit different with Star Wars Battlefront 2.

We’ve still got a long road ahead but today we want to outline these changes and offer a few of our own expectations as we push toward E3 2017 in June and the game’s global release on November 17th.

Look for key updates to emerge throughout the year as the company prepares its next Star Wars game for arrival.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Season Pass

Shortly after EA DICE confirmed the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 release details, the company told Mashable it wouldn’t release a Star Wars Battlefront 2 Season Pass.

These comments were extremely surprising given that EA DICE has established a predictable DLC release protocol over the years.

Star Wars Battlefront (2015) and Battlefield 1 both feature a $50 Season Pass that nets you four DLC expansions that include new maps, new characters, early access to DLC, exclusive bonuses, and a lot more.

A day later, the company walked these comments back asking Mashable to “withhold the confirmation that there won’t be a Season Pass for Battlefront 2” because “they couldn’t definitively say whether that would be the case.”

At this point, we don’t expect the game to feature the traditional Season Pass. That said, there will almost certainly be a replacement that allows gamers to purchase premium DLC content.

Remember, EA’s already announced a Deluxe Version of the game that comes with Rey and Kylo Ren character skins and a bonus for the Millennium Falcon.

Working on Something “Different”

While the company isn’t ready to confirm any live service details just yet, it says its listening to the community and hopes to provide a more robust experience in Star Wars Battlefront 2.

While we’re not ready to confirm any live service plans just yet, what we can say is this we heard the feedback from our Battlefront community loud and clear. We know they want more depth, more progression, and more content. So we’re focused on delivering that in every dimension of Star Wars Battlefront 2. We’ll have more to share about our plans soon.

Bernd Dierner, the creative director on Battlefront 2, added that the company has “something different in mind that will allow you to play longer, be [more] invested in the game without having a fragmented community.”

He added:

When we looked at the way Battlefront had evolved over its lifetime, with the DLC and everything, we decided, ‘You know what? For this type of game, season passes are not the best thing. We need to [take it apart] and come up with something better.

Fragmentation was a serious problem with the 2015 version of Star Wars Battlefront and its an issue the developer hopes to avoid with this year’s release.

Exactly how it plans to do that remains unknown though we don’t expect the key details to emerge until we get closer to the game’s release in November.

When to Expect Battlefront 2 DLC Info

While we’d love for EA DICE to clear this up in April, that’s probably not going to happen. We’d be surprised if the company discussed its plans ahead too far ahead of the game’s release date.

The first milestone will be E3 2017 where the company will let the general public play the game for the first time. We expect to get new Star Wars Battlefront 2 details during EA Play but we’d expect them to be light on DLC.

In 2015, EA announced the first Star Wars Battlefront DLC details in October, just ahead of the game’s release in mid-November.

Don’t be surprised if the company does something similar this year with Star Wars Battlefront 2 and its premium content.
