DICE recently announced a brand new Battlefield 1 Nivelle Nights map that falls outside of the game’s DLC. With a release just a few weeks away we want to touch on the most important things to know, right now about the Battlefield 1 Nivelle Nights release for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

As we push into 2017, DICE continues to release new content for Battlefield 1. In February, the company released a major update with new features, bug fixes and tweaks designed to improve the overall quality of the game. In March, DICE released the first Battlefield 1 DLC dubbed They Shall Not Pass.

DICE has a lot more planned for the game including new updates, new DLC, and a map called Nivelle Nights.

In December, DICE released a free map called Giants Shadow. The map arrived alongside a base game update. Giant’s Shadow is available to anyone, not just those who’ve picked up the $50 Battlefield 1 Premium Pass.

Nivelle Nights is a new, free map for Battlefield 1.

Nivelle Nights is the next free map release for Battlefield 1 owners though its release is a little more complicated.

Today we want to go over the most important things you need to know about the Nivelle Nights release date, the content, the early trial, and more.

What’s Coming First

DICE is planning to release two new Battlefield 1 patches ahead of the Nivelle Nights release.

In early April, the company committed to releasing monthly Battlefield 1 updates as opposed to seasonal patches. These updates will bring fixes for lingering problems and they’ll also bring new features to the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

DICE is planning to release its Spring Battlefield 1 update in April. The company hasn’t confirmed a specific release date. The Spring Battlefield 1 update will have tweaks, fixes and some new features including Platoons.

Sometime after that, DICE will release a May Battlefield 1 update which will include “streamlining the flow into matches (especially Operations) and improving many gameplay grievances that will hopefully make the action feel more balanced and fair.”

The May update doesn’t have a release date.

Nivelle Nights Release Date

DICE hasn’t confirmed a specific day but the company says the Nivelle Nights release date will land sometime in June. For Premium Pass holders.

In its announcement, DICE said the map will be coming in June for Premium Pass holders. It didn’t say anything about a release for everyone else. That’s obviously caused a stir in the Battlefield 1 community and many Xbox One, PS4 and PC owners are frustrated.

Some believe Nivelle Nights will eventually be released, like Giant’s Shadow was, to those without a Premium Pass.

Premium Pass holders and people who pre-ordered Battlefield 1 got Giant’s Shadow a week before everyone else.

What’s Battlefield 1 Nivelle Nights

Nivelle Nights is a free map that features the French and German armies battling against one another under the cover of darkness. Yes, this is the first Battlefield 1 map set at night.

The map, which is set in Chemin des Dames in 1917, features the muddy battlegrounds around Malmaison and Soupir in France.

The images here, from DICE Media Editor  showcase the Nivelle Nights map in amazing detail.

The map features trenches, searchlights, the glowing moon, and lots of mud. The video below will give you an up close look at the map’s topography, spawn points, and capture points if you’re interested in those.

How to Try Nivelle Nights Right Now

If you want to try Nivelle Nights right now, you can.

DICE has released the new map into the Battlefield 1 Community Test Environment, also known as the Battlefield 1 CTE.

The Battlefield 1 CTE is currently limited to Windows PC users but DICE is expected to open it up to the Xbox One and PS4 at some point down the road.

There are a few reasons to try the Nivelle Nights map:

  • To test the map before most gamers. This will give you an advantage over many of your opponents when the map is officially released in June.

  • To help DICE test for bugs. The maps is plagued by a bunch of issues and your testing could right the ship before the official release.

DICE is looking for feedback about the following items:

  • Placement of conquest points

  • Distance between conquest points

  • The size of the conquest point capture areas

  • Layout of the main paths between the conquest points

  • Nighttime visibility

  • Special Conquest Points setup – Teams will have pre-owned flags and special start of round spawns

  • Vehicles – Are there enough? Are they useful?

  • Cover – Is there enough cover on the map?

  • Major geometry bugs, glitches and exploits

It doesn’t want feedback about smaller bugs, sound issues or minor graphical problems.

What’s Next

At this point, we’re expecting Nivelle Nights to serve as a bridge between They Shall Not Pass and the next piece of Battlefield 1 DLC.

In the Name of the Tsar is the second Battlefield 1 DLC and it will bring the Russian army, four new maps, new weapons, and more to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

DICE typically puts several months in between its DLC releases so we don’t expect the next DLC to be out in April or May. Rather, we’d expect it to be out sometime after Nivelle Nights, possibly in July or August.

After that, DICE will release the Turning Tides DLC, the Apocalypse DLC, monthly patches, and, if we’re lucky, free maps that fall outside of the DLC expansions.
