Alphabet’s Nest has become a leader in smart home products. From the popular thermostat to security cameras, the Google-acquired company aims to take over your home with great products, and rumors of their next-generation units are coming afloat.

Bloomberg cites an insider who is said to be familiar with the matter. This source claims Nest is currently working on a cheaper thermostat, an improved version of their security camera, a home alarm system and a digital doorbell. Nest representatives are declining to comment, so let’s take this all with a grain of salt; as we usually do with rumors.

Pay less for a smart thermostat

One of the most exciting news coming from these murmurs is that Nest may be working on a more affordable version of its popular thermostat. While the Nest Thermostat is a convenient tool that pays itself in savings after time, we still can’t deny its price is a bit higher than most people are comfortable with.

The current thermostat’s price point goes for $249, a price that is set to be cut down to under $200 with the next version. This price reduction does come with some sacrifices, though. The same source claims Nest will be using cheaper materials to construct this new device. One of the changes is said to be the lack of the metal edges.

It should be launched by next year, so it’s probably still a while before we know anything for sure.

New indoor camera in the works

Another product said to be renewed is the Nest Cam Indoor. We don’t know much about what the new camera could feature, but it’s rumored to be able to identify specific people walking into the frame. Last year’s model could only tell if a person (any person) is in the room.

The new camera could be released as soon as this Fall, so we might not have to wait much longer for it.

Secure your home and let the dog walker in

New products are in the works, as well! One of them is said to be a home alarm system that is a bit smarter than your usual set-ups. The prototypes has a central hub with a keypad, a set of sensors for windows/doors and a fob. Said key fob could be used to activate/disarm the alarm.

In addition, the system could work with a smartphone application, which would allow the user to give access to people remotely.

This system could be shipping this year.

Check who’s at the door

Last but not least – a digital doorbell. We have seen similar tech in the past. The idea is that a visitor can ring the doorbell, with which you can communicate through video and audio. It is also expected to work with an app.

This doorbell could be released as soon as next year.

Wrapping up

Nest is pushing itself into your home through every crack it can find. These sound like good products, though. Are you interested in getting any of these? I kind of want them all!
